Gerard has led software engineering professionals in the corporate world with some of the top tech firms, and has also invested his time teaching at the college level.  Supervisors have praised him for his ability to lead multiple global teams to top results through an inclusive and mentoring approach. Noted for being decisive, motivational, and inclusive, employees credit his impact on their career growth.  In our discussion, Gerard shares his story and some techniques he uses with his own staff.  You’ll hear him discuss the importance of adapting your communication style to your staff, and a technique he uses to identify those communication styles.  He’ll also walk us through some unique ways to invest in ongoing learning through both company resources and private resources.

I’ve invited Gerard to the ManagerMirror because I wanted to bring his technical people-management perspective to this audience.  A University of Illinois graduate, Gerard started his career doing software sales with Informatica in 2008 for 3 years before moving to a Principal Systems Engineer role at Vertica in 2011.  In 2013, Gerard moved over to Tableau and began a six-year run where he became an expert in public sector SAAS sales and moved into leading teams as a manager.  After Tableau, Gerard spend the last 3 years at Salesforce as a Solution Engineering Director where he took on leading DEI for the organization as a project while guiding his teams to results delivery and career growth.  Throughout his career, Gerard has prioritized ongoing education in his profession and given his time back to others as an adjunct professor with organizations like Montgomery College and Nova Data School.  Today, Gerard consults top tech firms on Data Growth, Strategy, and Organizational transformation at Valerio Digital in Washington DC.
